Provenance
Made during the 1980s, this spectacular vintage cocktail ring features a sapphire of astounding size, colour, calibre. Weighing approximately 19ct, the cushion-cut stone is claw-set in an open-back setting. It has a striking colour change effect - a rare phenomenon whereby a gemstone appears two different colours in two different light sources.
In natural daylight, the sapphire boasts the stunning cornflower blue that Ceylon sapphires are so highly prized for. Once indoors under warmer incandescent light, the stone appears a striking purple colour. With every movement of the hand, subtle undertones of blue, violet and pink flicker from within - a truly magical and unique sapphire, with exceptional clarity too.
Flanked by three diamonds on either side, six in total, which form the shoulders of the ring. Set with two baguette-cut diamonds in rub-over settings, set east-to-west. Immediately above and below the baguette cut diamonds are two round brilliant-cut diamonds, grain-set and bordered by subtly raised polished borders.
The gallery is intricately pierced with a geometric linear design reminiscent of Art Deco architecture. The shoulders are open and slightly sweep inwards before flowing to a solid platinum shank.
A true show-stopper of a ring.
