"Amethyst and diamond ring, circa 1935. This cluster ring is a superb example of the high degree of technical prowess attained by jewellers in the early 20th century, with each of its stone settings painstakingly cut by hand. The octagonal step-cut amethyst at its centre is haloed by a glittering double border of antique circular-cut diamonds, in stippled millegrain borders. Despite its visual impact, the setting sits low on the finger, making it much more comfortable and easy to wear than its glamorous front may seem.
