Description
Diamond and sapphire ring. The centre of this glamorous ring is collet-set with a square cushion diamond weighing approximately 1.20 carats, within a border of radiating calibré-cut sapphires, to an outer floral border of circular-cut diamonds. The sapphires in this deceptively simple ring have been specially cut for the setting (calibré-cut), so that they tessellate together to form a radiating oval shape, an extremely labour intensive and time-consuming technique which emerged as stone cutting techniques became increasingly advanced in the early 20th century in order to meet the demands of the abstract geometric designs of the Art Deco period. The result of all this meticulous cutting and setting is a seamless blue surface, allowing light to run along the facets, moving across one stone to the other without any hint of a metal setting, and offering the perfect backdrop to the white diamonds at the centre and borders.
