Sapphire and diamond ring, circa 1920. The design of this ring, with its three bands of diamonds/sapphires/diamonds, is immediately recognisable as Art Deco. Art Deco is of course the name given to the distinctive geometric style which took the world of decorative arts by storm in the interwar period. Jewellery was where it took hold most successfully - jewellers entirely reimagined their craft after centuries dominated by ornate, floral styles. The central stripe of sapphires beautifully demonstrates one of the main technical innovations around this time - cutting stones to fit the mount (known as a calibré cutting) and then aligning them in a channel setting, sitting seamlessly side-by-side to create an uninterrupted surface of unified colour. Balancing it with two lines of cushion-shaped diamonds, this ring is a superb, stylish and very wearable way to bring a touch of effortlessly cool Art Deco into your jewellery collection.

Why I love it...
”This ring is desperately chic. It has quality, design and style. The sapphires are a beautiful colour, the diamonds are stunning chunky old-cuts and the fine details on the shoulders are magical. A wonderful ring, I love it."
