This magnificent cabochon-cut Australian opal amounts to an impressive 5.06ct and showcases the pastel play-of-colour that opals are renowned for. It is encircled by a cluster of twenty-two VS1, round brilliant-cut diamonds. The diamonds are secured in 18ct white gold claw settings and lead down to the basket-setting, an element of jewellery design that is very typical of this time. Tapered cathedral shoulders with simple carved details and an open back-holing complete this ring. The setting of this ring is understated, designed to draw attention to the captivating face of this piece. This ring is the ultimate cocktail ring, a true statement of sophistication and glamour. Tested 18ct white gold, circa 1970.
