Art Deco, oval kunzite and diamond ring, circa 1925. A beautiful centre, soft pink, kunzite set in a simple four claw setting to enhance the impressive characteristics of the stone. The kunzite is flanked by curving raised diamond shoulders comprising of old round brilliant cut diamonds and two horizontally set rectangular baguette cut diamonds, accomplishing a true symmetrical Art Deco design. Kunzite is a comparatively recently documented gemstone, having been first discovered in the early 20th century. It was first found in the pegmatites of Pala, California, in 1902. It is named after the famous mineralogist George F. Kunz who first identified it, making this ring a rare early example of kunzite being used in jewellery. It makes a striking cocktail or dress ring.
