Antique Victorian, 18ct Gold, Natural Colour-Change Sapphire and Pink Sapphire Ring
Pink and blue sapphire ring. Sapphires are celebrated for their enormous range of beautiful colours, shown off to great effect by this charming and unusual ring. The central sapphire, weighing approximately 5.1 carats, is a pale, silvery blue in daylight, and a light pastel violet in incandescent, artificial light. This phenomenon is known as ‘colour change’, and is only found in sapphires with a trace element of chromium, which can respond dramatically to variations in the colour of the light from different light sources. The dreamy hue of this central stone is offset by the ingenious use of pink sapphires as shoulder stones and a scrolled mount in warm yellow gold dated to 1886, creating a ring full of tonal harmonies, with the colour palette of a summer meadow.
Accompanied by GCS report no. 80265-77, stating that the central sapphire weighing approximately 5.1 carats and the pink sapphires weighing a total of approximately 2.2 carats are natural, with no indications of heat treatment.
