Diamond half-eternity ring, Chaumet. The firm Chaumet is one of the oldest and most important jewellery houses in the world. Its founder, Marie-Etienne Nitôt, had been apprenticed to Marie Antoinette’s jeweller Aubert, before establishing his own business in 1780, and rising to fame as the official jeweller to the court of Napoleon Bonaparte, making now world-famous jewels for his jewellery-obsessed first wife, the Empress Joséphine. In 1815, when Napoleon was finally defeated, Nitôt sold the firm to his foreman, Jean Baptiste Fossin, who in turn went into business with the jeweller Jean-Valentin Morel and his son Prosper. The company was inherited by Prosper Morel’s son in law Joseph Chaumet, and the firm finally took the name it is known by today. Chaumet produced some of the most spectacular jewels of the 20th century, and are now owned by LVMH. This half eternity ring is an elegant twist on a classic design, with channel-set baguette diamonds set end-to-end – a difficult feat for any jewellery designer due to the straight baguette diamonds and the curve of the ring. The result is an ultra-slim and sleek half eternity ring, beautifully made and every bit worthy of its Chaumet signature.
