Zircon ring, circa 1920. Zircons, not to be confused with the diamond simulant cubic zirconia, are natural stones with a venerable history, prized for their bright lustre, their high dispersion and their range of beautiful body colours. This light golden brown zircon is unusually large, at approximately 15 carats, and has been faceted in a round brilliant cut (a shape usually reserved for diamonds) to show its fire and lustre to full effect. Set alone in a simple claw-setting, the colour of the 15 carat gold mount has been well-chosen to match the soft warmth of the stone, resulting in a simple, elegant and beautifully cohesive jewel.
