Demantoid garnets are an incredibly rare stone, which was discovered in the Russian Ural mountains in 1868, and swiftly rose to prominence. The name ‘demantoid’ means ‘diamond-like’, and was given to this green variety of garnet due to its high dispersion, splitting white sunlight into the colours of the rainbow and giving the stone a diamond-like fire. This rich green demantoid shows all the hallmarks of these famous Russian stones – a rich green colour, a bright fiery lustre, and even its characteristic ‘horsetail’ inclusion – an unusual mineral inclusion which is characteristic of demantoids, and highly prized for its striking beauty. Set within a border of brilliant-cut diamonds and offset by a warm yellow gold mount, this ring is an unusual and rare jewel, a very wearable size.
