Emerald and diamond cluster ring, circa 1900. This striking, exceptional bright green Colombian emerald is cut in the traditional style, known as the ‘emerald cut’ – an elongated octagon, with no sharp corners (perfect for emeralds), and long, large facets that allow the light to flow through the stone uninterrupted, showing off its rich green body colour. Colombian emeralds form differently from emeralds found in other deposits, and as a result produce stones of particularly vivid colour and distinctive, beautiful patterns of inclusions. In addition to its attractive body colour, has excellent clarity, with only minor traditional clarity enhancement with oil. Set in a protective yellow gold collet setting within a border of antique cushion-shaped diamonds, this traditional cluster ring is given a contemporary twist with its ‘east to west’ orientation, going across rather than along the finger, meaning it will sit beautifully alongside a wedding band.
