Gold, enamel ring, circa 1750. An exceptional, fine quality memento mori ring detailed with enamel and carved a skull, a rose and pumpkin head. It’s a truly exceptional, and rare, piece of history in remarkable condition. The gold has tarnished beautifully over time, with the majority of the enamel intact. The inside of the ring is engraved: ‘W*A*ob*10*May*14.’ This is highly unusual, especially to find the use of star symbols acting as spacers between characters and numbers. The side of the ring is also beautifully detailed with a delicate stippled motif. Some remains of original hallmarks are present but illegible. Similar pieces can only be found in museums or major jewellery collections.
