Early 20th Century, 18ct Gold, Chrysoberyl and Diamond 'Faun' Ring

Product SKU: ARB-557

Cat’s Eye Chrysoberyl Faun Ring. ‘Cat’s Eye’ is a type of chrysoberyl that is filled with microscopic needle-links inclusions that reflect the light in a single fine line when cut in a domed ‘cabochon’ shape, looking like a cat’s pupil. While other stones can also produce this effect, chrysoberyls are by far the most highly prized, for their attractive body colour and the fineness of the flash of light that plays across them. This characterful Art Nouveau design sets a cat’s eye in the mouth of a faun, its face imaginatively modelled and intricately hand-finished, its eyes set with a pair of glittering single-cut diamonds. A fascinating statement ring, full of the drama and pathos of fin-de-siècle jewellery design.

Why I love it...

“ This ring is a true work of art. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is unbelievable. The twisting horns forming the band of the ring, glistening diamond eyes, the cabochon chrysoberyl emulating a crystal ball and locks of hair carved into the gold, truly amazing.”
