Description
Aquamarine ring, early 20th century. The simple, geometric cut of this aquamarine is juxtaposed with an elaborate decorated mount, with millegrained borders, chased scrollwork around the setting and an intricately pierced gallery. The pale blue form of beryl, aquamarine owes its subtle and enchanting colour to the presence of iron. This colour has given aquamarine its obvious affinity with water, and in Europe the stone was traditionally believed to offer protection to sailors on their voyages, ensuring a calm ocean. This beautifully designed jewel would make an excellent engagement ring, or alternatively would be suitable for daily wear on its own.
