Emerald and diamond ring, late 19th century. Set with an unusually clean and vividly coloured cushion-shaped Colombian emerald, within a surround of charming old mine-cut diamonds, this beautiful cluster ring also has a story to tell. Documented in the original invoice, the ring was acquired from a jeweller in Lahore, India in in 1945, who had reportedly purchased it twenty years previously from a British soldier stationed there. The interior of this well-travelled ring is numbered 7298, and inscribed with the date '27 Juillet' in a flowing calligraphic script, which might explain the choice of emerald, the birthstone of May, as the central stone.
