Provenance
Original to c.1898, this opal and diamond five-stone ring was made in the late Victorian era. Set with several cabochon-cut opals interspersed by two old-mine cut diamonds. Opal is prized for its enchanting 'play-of-colour' - an optical effect in which flashes of iridescent colour shift and dance in the light. Here, the opals display vivid tones of violet and green, while the central stone is distinguished by a delicate pink body colour.
The lively play-of-colour combined with the bright twinkle of the antique diamonds make this ring a joy to wear and admire.
The stones are in open back claw settings with decorative scallop detail, to shoulders that gently taper to a ridge. The band is 18ct yellow gold and fully hallmarked for Birmingham assay office 1898.
