Provenance

Original to c.1900, this incredible diamond ring is a unique and rare example of early 20th century craftsmanship, known as a tiara ring. Set with a pear-cut diamond with the most stunning antique proportions. In an age long before laser machines cut diamonds with exacting precision, each stone was faceted by hand and cutting a drop-shape diamond was no easy feat.

Elegantly claw-set above two scrolling motifs, each terminated by a round old-cut diamond. The scrolls gracefully flow to form the shoulders of the ring, each further adorned with grain-set diamonds, to a solid 18ct yellow gold band. To bottom, a cushion-shaped old-mine cut diamond also claw-set in an open-back setting.

The design of this ring resembles a fleur-de-lys motif or tiara, and has both the elegancy and delicacy for which Edwardian and Belle Époque jewels are so loved. Rings with similar designs do exist, however they are rare and highly collectable.

The Natural Stones

  • Principal diamond weight: 0.80ct

The Ring Overall

  • Front Head Dimensions: Length 17.8mm; Width 8mm (including diamond shoulders); Height of setting 4.2mm
  • General Wear: Excellent; wear commensurate with age.

The ring is in very good overall condition. Minor wear to the gallery - with 100 years of beautiful natural darkened patina covering the setting. The ring can be polished to remove the patina if desired. No chips, cracks or heavy scratches on the surface of the pear-cut diamond.

Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
