Description
Rings in this distinctive design are known as ‘navette’ rings – literally meaning ‘little boat’, from the shape of their settings. Popular from the 18th century onwards, they were prized for their elongating effect on the hand of the wearer. This navette ring is pavé set with a glittering array of antique cushion-shaped diamonds and an outer border of rose-cut diamonds. Its 19thcentury date is revealed by the hand-pierced gallery along the edge of the gold and silver mount, and the superb pierced setting at the back of each diamond – a mark of superior quality and the excellent workmanship that gave jewels of this age an unprecedented lightness and delicacy. A beautifully made, sparkling example of this classic design.
