Emeralds are commonly included stones, with fissures, feathers, crystals and fluid-filled inclusions. This emerald however balances its classic, rich green colour with excellent clarity and purity, its colour heightened by yellow gold settings against a silvered mount set with circular-cut diamonds. Rings in this distinctive design are known as ‘navette’ rings – literally meaning ‘little boat’, from the shape of their settings. Popular from the 18th century onwards, they were prized for their elongating effect on the hand of the wearer. This navette ring is an unusually late example of this classic design, dated to 1927, and is made in a traditional way, but using the newly-discovered and refined platinum for the front for extra durability, ensuring it does not tarnish. A truly elegant design, with a breathtaking centre stone.
