Provenance
Original to c.1905, this Edwardian cluster ring beautifully encapsulates the elegance and quiet refinement of the period. Set to centre with a natural, unheated Burmese ruby with an intensely saturated glow. The ruby hails from the historic Mogok mines, world renowned for producing the finest and most valuable rubies including the ultra-rare pigeon-blood variety. What we love about this ruby is just how rich, vibrant and full of life it is - this is a stone that is impossible to tire of. Securely held within a platinum rub-over setting, delicately finished with a fine millegrain edge.
Surrounding the ruby, a two-tiered cluster of single-cut diamonds, each grain set and bordered by further millegrain edging. Each one cut by hand, no two are the same, each has its own distinctive character and sparkle. By modern standards this would be considered anathema, however this is exactly what makes it such a beautiful and special ring.
The inner and outer diamond halos are delicately separated by fine openwork, creating the illusion that the central ruby is suspended effortlessly in mid-air. The generous oval cluster design provides excellent finger coverage, yet the thoughtfully executed open back and low, linear gallery allow the ring to sit almost flush against the skin.
The result is a piece that feels exceptionally smooth, close-fitting, and remarkably comfortable to wear. In fact, what stands out most is not just how it looks, but how beautifully it feels when worn. The shoulders, crafted in 18ct yellow gold, taper gracefully into a refined yet sturdy shank. They are a true highlight of the design, formed with elegant tri-split openwork that adds both lightness and sophistication.
