Provenance
Original to c.1925, this old-cut diamond three-stone is a refined example of Art Deco craftsmanship. My favourite thing about this ring is that it combines both a round old-cut diamond with two cushion-shape old-mine cut diamonds. The old-mine cut is one of the earliest diamond cuts, and is characterised by its deep proportions, broad and unevenly distributed facets, large cullet and softly rounded cushion-shape outline. Old-mine diamonds were cut before the South African diamond deposits were discovered and so will have come from the old mines of India or Brazil. These stones are known for their soft and romantic glow as opposed to the much harsher twinkle of modern laser-cut stones. The two old-mine diamonds here in this ring have a stunning subtle rosy-tint to them which I absolutely adore!
The central diamond is a round old-cut. This diamond cut evolved from the old-mine and coincided with the discovery of the South African deposits along with advances in diamond-cutting which allowed diamonds to be cut round for the first time ever! With a perfectly round outline, it was easier to hand-facet the diamond with greater precision and symmetry, resulting in brighter, more brilliant stones. The central stone has a very impressive size of 1.51ct and has exceptional clarity. All three diamonds are in platinum rub-over settings finished with refined millegrain edging - miniscule spheres of platinum, each meticulously soldered by hand. The gallery is very simple, thin, open and linear. To solid platinum shoulders which lightly taper to a solid platinum court-shape shank.
