To find out more about the gemstones in this ring:
Provenance
This Cartier ring was made during the 1970s and was originally a bespoke commission from a client who supplied the 10ct smoky quartz themselves. Signed 'CARTIER MTG', pieces with this signature are highly collectable today and often feature gemstones of exceptional calibre - this ring is no exception. This smoky quartz has a rich mahogany hue which flickers with golden undertones as the ring is turned under light.
Claw-set in an open-back setting and surrounded by a border of twisted yellow gold. The gallery features linear open-work and the shoulders subtly flare to form the broad 18ct yellow gold shank which, like the shoulders, formed of fine twisted gold-work.
This ring is the epitome of the bold and gold cocktail rings that were in vogue during the 70s. This ring would certainly be the height of glamour when it was first made over fifty years ago.
