Provenance
Original to c.1910, this exquisite cluster ring is set with a natural, unheated colour change sapphire of approximately 7ct. We aren't sure whats more impressive, the sapphire itself or the expertly crafted platinum filigree setting.
The sapphire originates from from the historic mines of Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka) which is world renowned for producing some of the finest sapphires ever discovered. This one shows a rare phenomenon called colour-change, meaning it looks different colours entirely when viewed in different types of white light. This sapphire shows a violet-blue colour change and is fascinating to watch it transform as you step outside.
Weighing 7ct and oval-cut, it has an incredible clarity - it really is an exceptionally rare sapphire. Secured in a rub-over setting with ridged detail that features millegrain edging on both the inner and outer borders. Surrounded by an intricate filigree open-work design that takes the form of a bombé style ring. The pattern features stylised acanthus-leafs, scrolling motifs and coiling volutes. There is something utterly mesmerising about how refined and exquisite it is. All worked entirely by hand, this ring is a testament to the master craftsmen of the early 20th century and their unmatched skills and expertise.
The filigree design is set with single-cut diamonds throughout, replete with millegrain edge detail. The shoulders taper towards a triple banded ridge detail, from which flows a solid platinum D-shape shank.
This ring is such a special piece that would make the perfect heirloom to be treasured for generations to come.
