Vintage, 1980s Burmese ruby & diamond cluster ring
Provenance
Original to the 1980s, this stunning vintage cluster ring centres on an incredible natural and unheated ruby from Burma. Burmese rubies are the pinnacle of quality when it comes to assessing rubies, known for their bright, saturated colours and high level of clarity. This particular ruby has such a vivid pinkish red hue with a luminosity that makes it literally glow, even in dark lighting.
The ruby is unheated, making it even rarer. It has a lovely oval mixed-cut and is claw-set in an open-back setting, Surrounded by two clusters of natural diamonds, the inner cluster set with small round brilliant-cuts, the outer cluster set with larger diamonds. The effect is a unique radiating flower-like design which invites the eye inward to the glowing ruby at its centre.
The gallery is open and designed like a basket with linear open-work and the shoulders lightly taper inwards before flowing to a solid 18ct yellow gold band with a nice width to it - more substantial than earlier Edwardian cluster rings which tend to feature very delicate and slight bands.
A really beautifully made ring that would be the perfect and deeply meaningful engagement ring.
