Spring is a time of renewal, freshness and new beginnings. It’s a time to shed the layers of winter and embrace the beauty of the outdoors. It’s also a great opportunity to experiment with new fashion trends and accessories. As the temperatures rise and the flowers bloom, our fashion choices shift towards lighter and brighter colours, with accessories that reflect the season's energy.

Spring fashion is all about light, bright and playful clothing. The fashion trends this season include florals, pastels, bold prints and flowing dresses. The oversized silhouette is also a dominant trend this Spring, as well as frills and ruffles. In terms of jewellery- stacked rings and statement earrings are incredibly popular. Gemstones can be a great way to add some colour and shimmer to your spring wardrobe, but which ones are best suited to this time of year? The Pantone Colour Institute has recently announced that the colours of 2023 are butter yellow, lavender lilac, peach, coral and pale blue. These colours are reminiscent of not only the spring blooms but also of some of our favourite gemstones. In this blog, we'll explore some of the gemstones that work particularly well for springtime fashion and how to pair them with this years spring trends.

Aquamarine

Citrine & Coral

Citrine is a bright and sunny gemstone that ranges in colour from pale yellow to deep orange-brown. It is a symbol of happiness and abundance. Making it a wonderful pairing for spring time fashion. Coral is also a great springtime gemstone because of its bright and vivid colour which can evoke feelings of energy and warmth. This natural gemstone is formed by living organisms in the ocean. Its unique texture and patterns make coral a true one-of-a-kind. Coral works beautifully with bohemian-inspired earth-tones outfits. Long, flowing fabrics as well as dark denim- for example wide leg jeans also perfectly complement the peachy stone. Peridot & Chartreuse Sapphire

Peridot is a vibrant green gemstone that perfectly encapsulates the lushness of spring. It is bright, cheerful and evokes a sense of vitality that is also present in nature during the season. Chartreuse sapphire is named after its unique colour. They are rare and highly valued because of this and are a wonderful spring or summer alternative as traditional blue sapphires work better with autumn or winter outfits. They both highly compliment spring florals which often feature shades of pink, purple and green. A peridot ring or pair of chartreuse sapphire earrings will add a touch of soft sophistication to a formal dress or gown for a spring wedding or gala. Both gemstones are also well suited to natural earthy tones such as tan, beige or brown and add a striking pop of colour to the classic blue jeans and white t-shirt combination. They are highly versatile and work well with a range of outfits.

Opal

The buttery yellow and lilac play of colour in white opal works beautifully with a spring palette. Opals work well with springtime outfits because of their unique and iridescent colours, which can complement the soft pastels that are often worn during the season. Opals add a touch of whimsy and playfulness to spring outfits. Opal jewellery can be worn in a variety of ways. For a subtle and elegant look, opal stud earrings or a delicate opal pendant necklace can be worn with a simple blouse or dress. For a bolder statement, an opal statement ring can be worn with a more minimalistic outfit. The sharp silhouette of a well-cut blazer (very popular this season) pairs well with opal and adds a touch of softness.

Silver

In recent months the worlds most renowned runways have showcased Spring/Summer 2023 collections. The latest catwalk looks suggest that silver jewellery is gaining immense popularity. While gold remains a top contender, silver statement pieces have become increasingly prevalent on the runways. A particularly noteworthy trend is the resurgence of oversized hoops, a staple of the 80s. Additionally bangles and arm cuffs ave made a huge comeback and are paired beautifully with dresses, and chic office-inspired outfits as well as highly saturated colours like cobalt blue and coral orange. With the onset of warmer weather, floral designs dominate and necklaces or chandelier earrings featuring nature-inspired designs are highly popular. If silver isn't for you, try white gold or mixing silver and gold to neutralise the cool tone of silver.
