Provenance
Original to c.1890, this incredible late Victorian gypsy ring is set with a sapphire of the most unusual and intriguing colour. Mined from Montana in the 1890s, and displaying the most wonderful greenish-blue to purple colour change. In daylight its a fusion of slate blue and teal green, subtly revealing its many shades and undertones when turned under the sunlight. When seen in warm incandescent light, it shifts to a deep violet colour. Theres something very mystical and whimsical about this sapphire which we are absolutely captivated by!
Cushion-cut, its outline is far from perfect, but the hand-cut nature of this sapphire makes it all the more special and unique. Its set in flush in a rub-over setting, the 18ct yellow gold gently tapers to a solid D-shape shank in 18ct yellow gold. It has a charming antique patina giving it a soft and romantic appeal. The band is conforming and the profile of the ring is low, making it so comfortable to wear.
