Provenance
Originating from the United Kingdom, this piece dates to circa 1905, the Edwardian era. A beautifully and delicately proportioned diamond three-stone ring, set to centre with a large round old-cut diamond with a lovely warm glow. Flanked by two more round old-cut diamonds, slightly smaller to give a harmonious balance on the finger. Round old-cut diamonds emerged in the Edwardian era, made possible by the discovery of the South African diamond deposits and revolutionary advances in diamond cutting that allowed these stones to be cut with greater precision and in perfectly round shapes. However these diamonds were still facetted entirely by hand, meaning each is unique and has its own character. The diamonds are all set in open back claw settings and sit above an intricately pierced gallery featuring fleur-de-lys motifs.
What is so gorgeous about this ring (other than the diamonds of course!) is how beautiful the decorative gallery is, yet how low in profile the ring sits - perfect to be worn everyday. The shoulders are equally stunning, ever so slightly raised with foliate detail, a subtle yet very refined detail. To a solid 18ct yellow band, inscribed with a makers mark for Solomon Blanckensee & Sons Ltd, a family jewellers founded in 1826.
