Provenance
Original to c.1920, this Art Deco three-stone ring has such unusual and elegant proportions. Set to centre with a natural Colombian emerald with a particularly striking and rich green hue. Many emeralds have a slightly minty undertone to them, whereas this stone has a very pure and intense tropical green.
Cut as an emerald-cut and claw-set in platinum in an open-back setting. This emerald has very high clarity - a quality that Colombian stones are renowned for. Flanked on either side by two cushion shaped old mine-cut diamonds with stunning antique proportions. With a combined weight of nearly 1ct, these stones are notably larger than the central emerald, these proportions are rarely see in three-stones, making this particular ring a striking example.
The cushion old mine-cut is one of the earliest diamond cuts, with its origins in the 18th century, these diamonds will have come from India or Brazil, the world's first two known diamond deposits. Hand-cut under daylight or candlelight, no two old mine diamonds are ever identical, each has its own characteristic charm and sparkle. They catch the light incredibly, offering a warm and romantic glow, as opposed to the intense scintillation of modern laser cut diamonds.
The platinum gallery is intricately pierced with a linear design typical of Art Deco design and the shoulders are open, featuring delicate chenier detail, they elegantly taper inwards before flowing to a solid 18ct white gold band.
We acquired this ring from a dealer who had purchased it from an esteemed private collection of Art Deco jewels in London.
