Provenance
Crafted in our own wonderful workshop using traditional techniques, this beautiful ring has been thoughtfully designed to be cherished for a lifetime of love and wear. At its centre sits a natural Alexandrite, chosen for its exceptional quality and distinctive colour change effect. Personally selected by Sam during his travels around the globe in search of the world’s finest gemstones, this stone has been responsibly and ethically sourced.
This Alexandrite is remarkable. Alexandrite is the colour change variety of the gemstone Chrysoberyl, prized for its ability to go from green to reddish-purple depending on the type of light it is viewed in. When viewed in daylight, which is rich in green and blue wavelengths, the stone appears a rich emerald-green, when the same stone is viewed in warm tungsten light which is rich in red wavelengths, it is seen as a reddish-purple. The Alexandrite itself isn’t selectively absorbing lightwaves any differently, it's just the lightwaves that are available to it are different enough to cause us to see two completely different colours.
This particular example shows an appreciable colour change effect from green to purple and it even features a flash of a bright verdant-green through it which comes to life at certain angles as the stone is rotated. Oval-cut, claw-set and surrounded by a halo of fourteen round brilliant-cut diamonds, each meticulously matched in colour and clarity. The outline of the cluster follows the elongated shape of the central Alexandrite and the overall look is extremely flattering on the finger.
The gallery is designed as a basket featuring linear open-work. The shoulders are slightly open and naturally slope to form a solid gold D-shape band. The yellow gold is 14ct - our favourite alloy for its durability and soft tone - and the ring has been hallmarked at Sheffield Assay Office.
Inspired by antique design, we have ensured that the profile of this ring remains low on the finger to ensure it is as comfortable and practical as it is beautiful!
Preserving heritage by keeping traditional techniques and tastes alive.
