Provenance

Original to c.1880, this Colombian emerald and old-cut diamond three-stone is impossible to not fall in love with. The emerald is of exceptional quality, hailing from the old mines of Colombia - the origin of the world's finest emeralds. Colombian emeralds are characterised by their highly saturated colour and remarkable clarity - even today, with many new deposits all over the world, Colombian emeralds continue to be the standard by which every other stone is judged. Emeralds are naturally very included gemstones. Known poetically as jardin (French for 'garden'), delicate moss-like feathers drift through the stone - not as flaws, but as fingerprints. This particular emerald is notably clear with no distracting inclusions, which is rare for an emerald of this size.

Elegantly claw set with delicate tri-split detail. Flanked by two round old-cut diamonds, perfectly matched in colour and quality, with a combined approximate weight of 1.17ct. Old-cut diamonds have a characteristic warmth to them allowing them to softly glow rather than the harsh scintillation seen in modern diamonds. Interspersed by four tiny rose-cut diamonds. The gallery is gorgeous, formed by decorative scrollwork carved into rich 18ct yellow gold; featuring fluted details with intricate voluted scrolls. The ring sits nice and low in profile and all of the stones are safely and securely held. The shoulders are polished and taper to a solid gold band, seen from the side the shoulders feature coiled spiral motifs that graduate in size, flowing into refined ridged detail. This ring is the epitome of Victorian grandeur and opulence; every detail has been thoughtfully considered and expertly carved.
