Provenance
Original to c.1930, this incredible Art Deco cocktail ring is a true testament to the era's unmatched craftsmanship. Set to centre with a natural aquamarine, octagonal step-cut and weighing 9.20ct this is an exceptional gemstone. It has bright sky-blue colour and remarkable clarity given its very large size. Claw-set in an open-back setting.
Flanked by diamond-set shoulders which have been exquisitely crafted. Each shoulder is triangular and tapers inwards to meet the band, featuring refined geometric open-work which has a very contemporary and artistic look to it. Set with round single-cut diamonds which are grain-set and surrounded by a millegrain edge border; twenty-two diamonds in total.
Each shoulder slopes downwards, conforming comfortably to the finger before flowing to a solid platinum shank. The gallery is equally as spectacular. Below the aquamarine, stylised open-work featuring heart motifs. The gallery below the shoulders features intricate scrolling motifs.
The Art Deco period was an age of post-war optimism, opulence and glamour and gave rise to the cocktail ring. As women embraced new freedoms and entered previously male-dominated spaces, these striking rings, worn on the right hand and often chosen by the wearer herself, became declarations of confidence, individuality and independence.
