Provenance
Original to 1989, this vintage garnet three-stone ring has been expertly crafted in a style that echoes the grandeur of the Victorian era. Set with three pleasingly large natural garnets, each displaying a richly saturated, blood-red hue. While many garnets tend toward darker, brownish or purplish undertones, these stones are exceptionally vibrant and alive with light, their colour intensifying as it dances within. Together, they have an approximate combined weight of 4.76 carats and are elegantly claw-set in open-backed settings. The finely executed split-prong claws add a refined decorative detail.
Nestled between the garnets are four small round brilliant-cut diamonds, providing a striking contrast to the rich crimson tones. Grain-set above a truly exceptional gallery. The gallery itself is a work of art, adorned with elaborate scrolling motifs that culminate in beautifully formed acanthus leaves. The overall aesthetic is grand and ornate, with a sense of weight and opulence - evoking a quintessentially Victorian gothic elegance.
True to antique design, the ring sits relatively low on the finger and conforms to its natural curve, ensuring exceptional comfort for everyday wear. The ornately carved shoulders feature refined ridge detailing that flows seamlessly into the solid 18ct yellow gold band.
Although crafted in 1989, this piece so convincingly captures the spirit of the Victorian period that, without deciphering its hidden hallmarks, one might easily assume it to be a genuine 19th-century jewel. It is a faithful and sophisticated interpretation of the carved half-hoop style which was highly popular during the 1880s–1890s and characterised by carved galleries that reflected the richness and opulence of the Victorian era.
