Provenance
Original to c.1925, this is without a doubt one of my favourite Art Deco rings! Not only is it exquisite to gaze at, it is ridiculously comfortable to wear - you’ll never want to take it off. Set to centre with a large round old-cut diamond weighing just over a 1ct.
Grain-set in an open-back setting and surrounded by an octagonal cluster of round old-cut diamonds, also grain-set and wonderfully matched in colour and clarity. The surrounding diamonds are bordered by polished edges featuring ridged detail which subtly accentuates the classic geometric outline for which the Art Deco movement is so well known!
To a second, outer cluster set with incredible unheard Burmese rubies, approximately 0.50ct in total. These rubies have such an intense glow to them and have been exceptionally matched in colour. The rubies are grain-set in yellow gold and surrounded by a polished border. The octagonal outline slightly softens making it perfectly practical to be worn without risk of bashing corners!
The gallery is low profile and pierced with scalloped detail. The shoulders are solid and each set with further diamonds. This style of ring is known as the target ring, a popular Art Deco play on the classic cluster ring. They are named for their resemblance to a dartboard and make for a highly unusual but striking engagement ring. This particular ring was made in America, discovered by Sam on one of his global sourcing trips in search of the world's finest antique rings and gemstones.
