Provenance

Made in the 1950s, this incredible diamond ring is love at first sight. At its centre sits a round old-cut diamond with an impressive weight of 2.14ct. This magnificent antique diamond has remarkable symmetry and proportions - it will have been hand-cut by a true master of his craft. It has a gentle warmth to it, which is enhanced by the gold rub-over setting that surrounds it.

Flanked on either side by five tapered baguette-cut diamonds, ten in total, which fan elegantly from the centre stone. Their sleek, hall-of-mirrors effect creates a striking contrast to the fire and scintillation of the central stone. Yet, despite their clean geometric lines, they subtly graduate in a way that softens their outline to compliment that of the old-cut diamond. The result is both dramatic and beautifully harmonious. The baguette-cut diamonds have a combined weight of 1.50ct and are channel set, surrounded by a polished rub-over border which is slightly raised to accentuate their striking outline.

The shoulders gracefully slant downwards, following the natural curve of the finger for a fit that is as elegant as it is comfortable. Beneath, the open gallery has a pleasingly low-profile and features delicately cut chenier details that lend the ring a refined sense of glamour. The exterior of the band carries a tiny owl hallmark, a French import mark which indicates the ring once travelled through France during its lifetime.

The 1950s was an era defined by glamour, optimism and confident elegance. It was the true Golden Age of the cocktail ring. As post-war society embraced celebration and sophistication once more, jewellery became bolder, more sculptural and irresistibly glamorous.
