Provenance
This ring is refined example of a Georgian mourning ring. Made in England between c.1800-1830, the forget-me-not motif became widely associated with remembering lost loved ones and features heavily in sentimental mourning jewellery from the Georgian period onwards.
Set to centre with an agate cameo that has been carved to depict a forget-me-not flower. 18ct yellow gold rub-over setting, encircled by fourteen rose-cut diamonds in silver cut-down settings which have oxidised beautifully over the centuries. The oval shaped head of the ring is daintily proportioned and from it flow split-open shoulders, decoratively carved into acanthus leaf motifs which are so ornate they almost resemble the plumage of a tropical bird.
The open shoulders taper to meet and flow into the 18ct yellow gold band; further adorned with scrolling volute details which have an architectural flourish to them.
