Provenance
This emerald and diamond three-stone is nothing short of spectacular. Set to centre with a natural Colombian emerald of exceptional colour and clarity. Colombia has long been celebrated as the source of the world's finest emeralds and those encountered in antique jewels are particularly prized, with many of the famed historic deposits now largely exhausted and no longer yielding gems of the same calibre.
This emerald has a green so pure and saturated that it practically glows. Octagon-cut, its proportions are highly unusual and quintessentially antique, as this stone will have been hand-cut. Flanked by two cushion old-mine cut diamonds, with a combined weight of over 2ct. Perfectly matched in colour they exhibit the soft, romantic sparkle unique to old cut diamonds only.
All three stones are claw-set in open-back settings and the gallery is intricately pierced. The ring is beautifully proportioned and the stones are graduated in size which offers a flattering and elegant spread across the finger. The head of the ring, that is the gemstones and their settings are Edwardian, c.1905.
The 18ct yellow gold band is a later replacement, a common and practical restoration for antique jewels that are intended to be worn comfortably everyday while retaining their original upper mount and character.
This ring is one of the finest emerald three-stones we've ever seen - a true heirloom piece.
