Provenance
Original to c.1905, this Edwardian cluster ring features one of the most remarkable opals we have ever had the pleasure of acquiring. Set to centre with a natural black precious opal with very strong and exceptional play-of-colour, evenly distributed throughout the stone. Black opals are among the rarest and most coveted varieties of opal, prized for the way their play-of-colour flashes dramatically against a dark body colour.
The body colour of this black opal has a particularly fine deep teal tone to it, making it all the more captivating. Rub-over set and bordered by delicate millegrain edge detail. Surrounded by a cluster of old cut diamonds with an approximate combined weight of 0.30ct. The diamonds are rub-over set with millegrain edges, to an intricately pierced gallery and a low profile which conforms comfortably to the finger. Solid shoulders which elegantly taper to a solid yellow gold band.
