Provenance

This ring is an absolute dream. Original to c.1915, this Edwardian era three-stone ring is set with round old-cut diamonds with an impressive combined weight of approximately 2.50ct. Whilst three-stone diamond rings rose to popularity during the Edwardian era, it is fairly uncommon to find one with these proportions; the central diamond is substantially larger than the two smaller flanking stones, offering a broad spread over the finger whilst remaining elegant and well-balanced.

The discovery of the South African diamond deposits along with huge advances in diamond cutting meant that during the Edwardian period, diamonds were able to be cut round for the first time ever. This also allowed their facets to be hand-cut with far greater precision, leading to brighter and more brilliant stones than ever before. But due to their hand-cut nature, no two old-cut stones are ever identical. Each still has its own distinctive character and charm, which is why we love antique diamonds so much.

The three old-cut diamonds have been perfectly matched in colour and clarity, and the largest central diamond if of exceptional quality: colour I-J, clarity VVS. All three diamonds are set in platinum rub-over settings finished with delicate millegrain edging - tiny granules of platinum, each meticulously soldered by hand. A hallmark of antique craftsmanship, the rings profile is nice and low, meaning it sits comfortably on the hand and is perfect for everyday love and wear. The gallery is intricately pierced with a linear zig-zag motif, lending subtle intrigue to its silhouette.

Crafted at the end of the Edwardian period, this ring captures the elegance of the late Edwardian aesthetic alongside the emerging geometry of the Art Deco movement, which would not come into its full expression for another ten years. The structured gallery and rub-over settings create a clean, architectural presence, while the delicacy of the design, meticulous detailing and traditional 18ct yellow gold band remain unmistakably Edwardian in spirit.
