Provenance
This Art Deco beauty is original to c.1925 and is a very refined example of the incredible craftsmanship of the era. The cocktail ring had been born and large flashy rings such as this one were the go-to choice for the speakiesies and jazz bars that were hugely popular. Set with two round old-cut diamonds in open-back rub-over settings that have been made to look octagonal. A decorative open-work border surrounds it, giving the appearance that the diamonds are actually suspended rather than mounted to the ring. To a cluster design that features an intricate platinum openwork design, interspersed with old-cut diamonds in both grain and rub-over settings. Beautiful millegrain edging throughout. The ring is low in profile, making it perfectly comfortable to wear despite its elongated finger coverage.
What I love about this ring is that it captures the spirit of its era. In the 1920s, the influence of the Ballets Russes and designers like Poiret ignited a fascination with the ‘exotic,’ inspiring a wave of extravagant Eastern-inspired jewels. This ring instantly makes me think of a peacock’s feather!
