Provenance
Original to c.1890, this is one of the most special solitaire rings in our collection. Set to centre with an incredible rose-cut diamond in a cut-down closed-back setting. The rose-cut is one of the earliest diamond cuts, originating in the 17th century. Characterised by an arrangement of triangular facets inspired by the petals of a rosebud, rose-cut diamonds are prized for their soft and romantic glow as opposed to the much harsher scintillation of modern laser cut stones.
The diamond is surrounded by open-work claws which elegantly curve, to an illusion-style surround crafted in hand carved gold work featuring scrolling motifs and volutes. The shoulders are very lightly open and feature chenier motifs. Tapering to a ridge and flowing to a solid gold shank.
Due to the closed-back setting we would not recommend wearing this ring as an engagement ring due to the risk of getting water trapped behind the diamond. However, this would make an exceptional piece for a collector or rose-cut enthusiast!

A small number of rings cannot be resized due to their material or design; this will always be clearly noted in the product description.
