Provenance

Original to c.1910, this Belle Époque peridot cluster ring is what dreams are made of! The peridot has the most vibrant, almost electric shade of green and remarkable clarity given its impressive weight of 8ct. Striking flashes of lime-green flicker at the peridot's edges and catch the light beautifully. Rub-over set in an open-back setting that allows light to pool into the stone and light it up from within. The rub-over setting has millegrain edge detail and is surrounded by a cluster of tiny old mine-cut diamonds.

Old mine-cut diamonds are one of the earliest diamond cuts and are characterised by their deep proportions and irregular distribution of broad chunky facets which allow the diamonds to have a much softer sparkle compared to the harsh scintillation of modern laser-cut stones. The diamonds are grain and rub-over set and add a subtle touch of refinement to an already outstanding ring.

The gallery is exquisite. Pierced with open-work that forms a delicate network of arches and columns that have a softly architectural feel to them but still retaining the elegance and lightness that defined Belle Époque design. The shoulders subtly taper inwards before forming a solid D-shape platinum shank and are set with a further three old mine-cut diamonds each, six in total.

This ring was found in Paris, France, the centre of Belle Époque design and craftsmanship. Although the cocktail ring was not born until at least fifteen years or so later, this is certainly not your subtle every-day piece. Its such a bold and fun yet effortlessly graceful and feminine - a ring that has most certainly lived a fun past life!
