Diamond ring, circa 1910. This front of this beautiful ring is constructed from a shallow domed oval plaque, which is intricately pierced, millegrain-bordered and set with circular-cut diamonds. The quality and intricacy of this metalwork was made possible by the development of platinum, which was lighter, harder and stronger than gold and silver, and able to take more minute detail. This ring uses a combination of masterful metalwork techniques and judicious use of stones to create a jewel of exceptional delicacy and lightness, substantial enough to be a cocktail ring, but comfortable to wear, low in profile and durable enough to be worn every day.
