Garnet and diamond ring, circa 1880. The so-called ‘rub-over’ setting in this ring is one of the oldest styles of stone setting, allowing the stones to sit low within the band, which keeps them protected from wear. This ring is set with a fiery red circular-cut garnet between two circular-cut diamonds, all within tapered band of warm antique gold - a versatile design that would function as an engagement ring, wedding ring or just a ring for everyday wear, either stacked or worn alone. The size can be easily adjusted without compromising the structure of the ring.
