This gemstone was made by the \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eVerneuil Flame Fusion (VFF) process which was producing commercial synthetic sapphires as early as 1902. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eColour change sapphires such as this one were purposefully made to be sold as Alexandrite simulants, the colour-change variety of Chrysoberyl.
