Sapphire Engagement Rings

Samuel Mee |

Sapphires have a long and storied history, and royalty has traditionally preferred them. Princess Diana's engagement ring was a magnificent oval sapphire (which Kate Middleton currently wears). Sapphires, along with diamonds, are one of the most popular gemstones in today's bridal and fashion fine jewellery.

Sapphire Symbolism

Sapphires are a wonderful option for an engagement ring as they symbolise a range of different things. Sapphires are said to represent morality, fidelity, and honesty, which are all important qualities in a marriage. Sapphires were once supposed to provide royals with protection, good fortune, and spiritual insight. It was a symbol of fortitude, charity, and excellent judgement.

Sapphire hardness

Sapphire is a very tough gemstone, ranking 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale. The durability of this gemstone makes it a great choice for engagement  rings and other mountings subject to daily wear.
