Emerald and diamond ring, early 20th century. This beautiful cluster ring is set with a step-cut Colombian emerald weighing approximately 1.3 carats, of impressively vivid green hue and good transparency. Colombia has traditionally been the source of the world’s best emeralds, which owe their exceptional quality to a distinct type of crystal growth, not found in emeralds from other localities. This lush green stone is surrounded by a double border of cushion-shaped diamonds all in half collet settings, made in the traditional combination of gold veneered with silver. Cluster rings are an enduring classic, and this example balances beauty with craftsmanship – keeping a low on the finger and ensuring the durability of its central stone with protective settings. A wonderful choice for an engagement ring.
