Purple sapphire and diamond ring, early 20thcentury. Sapphires are found in a rainbow of colours aside from the famous blue. The exception is red, when they’re known as rubies. This unusual sapphire is almost exactly halfway between a classic blue sapphire and perfect red ruby – a rare and gorgeously saturated shade of purple, it reflects both a bluish violet and pinkish mauve in its facets. Untouched by heat treatment, it sits between a beautifully matched pair of early 20thcentury circular-cut diamonds – a timeless three stone ring with an unexpected twist, perfect as an engagement ring.
