Sapphire and diamond ring, early 20th century. This sapphire and diamond ring is packed with ideas and different techniques, which come together beautifully to create a successful and very attractively unified design. The central diamond weighing half a carat is secured at the cardinal points by gold wire, attaching it to an openwork mount pavé-set with cushion-shaped diamonds alternating with stripes of calibré-cut sapphires. This extraordinary central section is supported by shoulders designed as leaves and embellished with additional diamonds - a wonderful finishing touch to this imaginative, technically accomplished and extremely attractive jewel.
Why I love it...
“This ring is everything you want in an antique jewel; it’s sophisticated manufacture is equalled by its genius use of gemstone cutting and colour coordination. It’s so fine and beautifully made. It is in amazing condition for a ring over 100 years old. This ring is for someone who appreciates attention to detail.”
